Studio

The long shared table under the lights

Studio The artist Alexandros Douras imagined Korkodilos: a ceramic studio in the centre of Athens, a little different from what the word “studio” brings to mind.

Plants, smells, daylight, clean wood. The space is part of the making: warm, light, built for focus and experiment.

Who we are The studio’s teachers.

The table At its heart, one big shared table, like the ones we eat and talk around. Here we make: different people side by side, watching each other’s work.

Around it, benches, sinks and everything you need. Upstairs, a second, freer studio for parallel classes, new materials and large-scale work.

Korkodilos is in constant conversation with design and art: in its graphics, its space, its classes, its masterclasses and its collaborations.

Clay We get to know the material. We discover its properties. We explore its possibilities. We learn to react quickly to its malleable nature. We watch it transform. We draw the design. We make the sketch real. We turn our imagination into work.

We learn through play. Play brings us together. It creates intimacy and carries an element of surprise. Korkodilos sets goals from the start and teaches each student to reach them calmly and with focus. During class we mix the material with art history and our own references. For Korkodilos, ceramics is a slow-paced process.

Tools All the tools are here: brushes, torches, banding wheels, airbrushes, an extruder, clays, glazes, colours. We fire in our own kiln, so whatever you make, you take home fired and glazed.

Alexandros Douras

Artist · Founder

Alexandros Ntouras is a visual artist specialising in sculpture and a graduate of the Athens School of Fine Arts.

He is the founder and teacher of Korkodilos, a studio born from his love of making and experimenting, and from the wish to share ideas and knowledge with others.

His practice moves between sculpture, ceramics, design and architecture, and he has shown work in exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

He has also founded Laspi.Life, a company that designs and builds homes, through which he explores the relationship between art, architecture and space.

Ariadni Strofylla

Artist · Teacher

Ariadni Strofylla (b. 1995) is an artist based in Athens. She holds a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Painting & Printmaking, from the Glasgow School of Art.

Since 2017 her work has focused mainly on sculptural ceramic techniques — combined with other materials such as beeswax, sound, metal, cob and alternative firing methods — exploring the transformation of matter, non-human ways of communicating and the sensory perception of insects, while rejecting anthropocentric hierarchies.

Recent exhibitions include: Nóema Craft Prize (Athens, July 2026), Open Floating Sea Palace (Stockholm, August 2025), Imaginarium Park: BIONICLE (Athens, July 2025), Radical Rest (Athens, June 2025), Trifles & Troupes | Everything Lies Under the Surface (Athens, November 2024). She has taught ceramics at various institutions since 2018.

Georgia Pilali working on a wall

Georgia Pilali

Artist · Teacher

Georgia Pilali is an artist based in Athens, a graduate of the School of Fine Arts and of the master’s programme “Art and the Public Sphere” at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

Her practice focuses on materiality, form and the relationship of the work with space and human experience. Experimenting with different materials and media — from clay, wood and metal to digital prints — she explores ideas of privacy and interiority, and the relationship between the personal and the collective.

Her work has been shown in a solo exhibition, group exhibitions and art projects. She received a commendation at a student Biennale, and a work of hers is in the permanent collection of the Hellenic Open University. She also has experience teaching art and designing educational programmes.

Zahos Siagkas

Zahos Siagkas

Artist · Teacher

Zahos Siagkas is an artist based in Athens. He studied Chemistry at the University of Patras, where he wrote his thesis in Environmental Chemistry, and went on to study at the Athens School of Fine Arts.

He works mainly with ceramics and glazes, approaching glaze chemistry both as a scientific system and as a means of expression. His work has been shown in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad.

At the heart of his practice is constant experimentation with the possibilities of clay and how it interacts with other materials — treating the kiln as a testing ground, where changes in matter reveal new aesthetic and conceptual dimensions.
